Defining Simple Small Business Software

How do you define simple small business software? It should be software designed specifically for small businesses and should be easy to use and adapt to. But unfortunately, most of the software in the market is far from simple. Too many features, too many things to learn, too many tools, too many applications integrated into one. Even the basic interface is too confusing for a newbie to adapt to it.

Small businesses who do not have dedicated IT support or the budget to train each and every employee look for simple small business software that has thoughtful features and an easy to use interface. The very basics are sufficient. There is no room for fancy applications. The software should get the job done and get it done easily.

The number of clicks matter

One of the best ways to analyze the ‘simplicity’ of small business software is to count the number of clicks that it takes to get basic tasks done. For example

* How many clicks does it take to create and post group calendars? Is it easy to keep the roster or schedule online with the calendar?
* Is information sharing too tedious? One of the highlights of simple small business software should be easy organization and sharing of information.
* Does the software include billing and invoice management? If yes, how many clicks does it take to generate an invoice on a client?

Apart from this, you can analyze the ease of use by assigning the software to a complete novice in your company. If that employee is able to adapt to the software within a few hours, then you can say that the software is simple indeed.

Features to look for

Just because software is simple doesn’t really mean that it should be stripped bare of any features. We all love a few bells and whistles.

* Project management
* Customer Service
* Data sharing and management
* Scheduler for appointments, meetings
* Billing and Invoice management
